Welcome to Camp Chawanakee the pride of Sequoia Council and premier summer camp of the Sierra Mountains. Starting in 1947 Camp Chawanakee has striven to offer scouts and scouters a great summer camp experience that works with their troop to provide scouts the opportunities to learn by doing, grow as a patrol, try new things and experience the wonders and joy of camping in the mountains.

Camp Chawanakee has one the best shooting facilities of any camp on the west coast. Scouts can participate in tomahawk throwing, archery, rifle or shotgun 
shooting. Our Shotgun range provides a variety of angles and directions for clay targets while shooting, and our rifle range can accommodate 32 shooters and spotters on up to 16 lanes.
Our Shooting Sports Staff is ready to help anyone, from veteran sharp shooters to those picking up the hobby for the first time. We also have dedicated shootings times for just adults, including a black powder shoot.

There is something here for everyone, and for every skill level. You can hop in the lake to cool off, try your hand at underwater basket weaving, or take out one of many boats. For the adventurous boaters we offer numerous types of boats, including: kayaks, canoes, row boats, stand up paddle boards and sailboats. Camp Chawanakee is located in the heart of the Sierra Mountain Ranges on the southern shore of Shaver Lake. This provides camp with unique vista like views throughout camp.
Your campsite will become your home away from home. Each campsite comes with a fire ring, multiple tables, a bulletin board and a flagpole. Each BSA canvas tents comes with wooden floors, two beds and mattresses. Each campsite is broken up into patrol sites so that scouts gets to practice the patrol method and hone their skills together.
While you’re at camp, you’re not just getting away from it all, you’re experiencing nature in a whole new way. Come find out what thousands of scouts and scouters have experienced before you. Our 52-foot Climbing Tower is a challenge open for all scouts to tackle. It stands over our assembly and flag area daring scouts to attempt a climb during their stay. It is a challenge that can be worked towards the entire week, with paths for both beginners and experienced climbers. It teaches climbers that the whole body is needed to summit the climb. Scouts will get instruction on how to safely climb up then rappel back down. Reaching the summit of the climbing wall provides a unique vantage point of our stunning camp.

Delicious breakfasts and dinners are served here daily. Prepared by an experienced and customer service-oriented staff meals are served cafeteria style creating a social environment. Camp Chawanakee strives to make accommodations for most dietary or allergy needs through either specialty foods or by helping you prepare your own meals.
