About Our Council

Scouting America is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations, providing a program for young people that builds character, promotes good citizenship, and develops personal fitness. For over a century, Scouting has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. Scouting America believes, and through over a century of experience, knows that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

A vital part of this legacy is the Sequoia Council. Founded in 1919 as the Fresno Council, it officially changed its name to the Sequoia Council in 1925. The council’s reach expanded significantly in 1992 when the Mount Whitney Area Council merged into it. Today, the Sequoia Council serves youth across the counties of Fresno, Madera, Kings, and Tulare, providing impactful programs for young men and women.
